CAN YOU BEAT NEW ZEALAND PORK?

The New Zealand Pork Industry Board has launched a new series of television advertisements in an effort to restore confidence in the New Zealand consumer to buy pig meat. But will they?

The three adverts feature either a chef or butcher boasting about the cooking methods or tips. They end with the tag line ‘You can't beat New Zealand pork'. SAFE director Anthony Terry says he is extremely surprised that the pork industry is so confident that these advertisements will encourage consumers to return to eating pork.

"You would expect after such adverse publicity over their cruel farming practices that the pork industry would be more forthcoming with promises to improve their welfare standards, rather than focusing on the ‘tastes good' mantra," says Anthony.

"Do they really expect the public to forget the harrowing images they saw on television and simply return to eating factory farmed pig meats as if there was no problem?"

SAFE has drafted several of its own web banners aimed at challenging the pork industry's new advertising campaign.
